Senishra showed amazingly high intelligence (especially so for a Vulcan) and by the age of 14 was enrolled in the prestigious Vulcan Science Academy. While in attendance, Senishra took a double major, consisting of Astrophysics and Stellar Cartography. Senishra excelled at the Academy and graduated with one of the highest GPAs ever seen at the Academy. After graduation, her parents pressured her to enroll in Starfleet Academy, which she did a year later.

Much as she had done in the Vulcan Science Academy, Senishra outdid herself and maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA all four years. Senishra would have been the Valedictorian of her class, but lost that title due to a lower score in the Kobayshi Maru simulation.

Upon graduation, Senishra was placed aboard the Vulcan Exploratory/Research Vessel SS T'Shonra to serve as the Starfleet presence.

Due to a difference of opinion with the ship's commanding officer, Senishra requested a transfer. The Starfleet Intelligence Corps had her transferred to the experimental USS Nassau. During the incident with the vessels of the Orion Syndicate, Senishra suffered major psychological and physical trauma.

After a couple month's recovery, Senishra was re-assigned to the refit Excelsior-class USS Berlin, where she served as the assistant astrophysicist. Senishra performed her duties excellently, attracting the attention of the Chief Engineer on board the USS Thomas Paine. Senishra transferred to the Thomas Paine after being offered the position of assistant engineer 2 in 2372.

Senishra did so well in this capacity that she was transferred to the USS Hood, a year and a half later and made Chief Engineer. After about a year, Senishra received a promotion from lieutenant to lieutenant commander. When the Hood's first officer was assigned a elsewhere in mid-2375, Captain DeSoto made Senishra his second-in-command. At the request of the Daystrom Institute, Senishra was promoted to full commander and assigned to the Phantom as both XO and Chief Science Officer.
