Muddy the Waters

PROLOGUE

Doctor Merak Invinoori and his team never had a chance. Four gray-skinned humanoids appeared out of thin air and quickly secured the lab.

"Who are you people and how did you get here? This is a restricted area!" shouted Invinoori impatiently.

The closest alien slapped him across the left side of the Doctor's head with two of its six arms. "Be quiet, Tellarite."

The Doctor fell back and pawed at his wound. "Blast you! Starfleet Security will be here in moments! Then you'll learn you don't man-handle me!"

"I said be quiet!" The alien barked, moving towards the Doctor menacingly.

"Viam! Enough! Download him and his team so we can proceed," ordered one of the aliens, sitting at the main computer terminal.

The alien known as Viam growled and aimed an odd-looking device at Invinoori. A yellow beam leapt from the device's two electrodes and washed over the Doctor. After a moment, Invinoori fell to the floor unconscious. Viam systematically used the device on the rest of Invinoori's design team. "I have completed the downloading. Shall I dispose of the bodies?"

"No. We do not have the time." The lead alien looked back down at the terminal screen. "We are done here. Engage shift."

The aliens reached over onto their uppermost right arm and activated a device. A shimmering blue glow surrounded them and then they were gone.
